PAC – Understanding Legislative Process

The training began with Bimbo Oshobe chanting the Nigerian slum/informal settlement federation slogan. “Information” her voice echoed in the class. “Power” the participant responded cheerfully.

The class got into full rhythm as the participants reflect on different topics from previous policy and advocacy committee training.

The participatory class express the approval of Bisola Akinmuyiwa presence as they gave a thunderous welcoming clap, just as she was introduce to the stage by the moderator – Andrew Maki.

Bisola, a young Nigerian slum/informal settlement federation paralegal and media savvy share her experience on public speaking during her presentation at the skoll world forum 2018. She stated clearly that one of the things that has help her to master the act of presentation is her willingness to open her mind and to accept constructive criticism and to build on them.

The second section began as Megan Chapman introduces the new topic for the day ‘LEGISLATIVE ADVOCACY’ (Understanding the legislative process). The class discuss intensively on ‘WHY and HOW’ we need to understand the legislative process. Megan chapman also explain the bicameral and unicameral system running in the federal and state level respectively. She also spoke about the difference about each branch (Executive, Legislative and Judiciary) in the state.

The third section which began shortly after the tea break highlight the legislative process in details. Megan also spoke about the four stages that are involved in the legislative process and the types of bill.
